Terms and Conditions

Once a written or verbal booking has been accepted by Akana, the client (or patient) will have entered into an agreement to have treatment, based on these Terms and Conditions. The fee for the treatment will be deemed due accordingly. The term ‘treatment’ is used for sessions of all therapies detailed on Akana’s website.

 

PAYMENT

Payment for treatment is due in full at the end of your session. Akana vouchers can be used as payment for treatment as specified on them and within their validity. Payment for Akana monthly massage membership is due by standing order on the first working day of each month. Payment for packages is due in full (for the whole package) at the end of the first treatment of the package.

Treatment packages are tailored to be taken within a certain period of time. Please check our Prices and confirm with your therapist, as these times might differ by package. If not all treatments are taken within the set time, any applicable discount no longer applies and only a number of individual sessions equivalent to the paid amount can be taken. These remaining sessions expire six months after the start of the package.

For example: a package of six MLD treatments requires that all sessions are taken over one month from the first session. In this example, after one month, the sixth treatment has not been taken, so the client loses their entitlement to it. Any amount paid for the package which is more than the equivalent of the sessions taken – had they been paid for individually (in this example 5 x £45 = £225) can be used as credit for any other treatment. If £247 was paid for the package, in this example a £22 credit remains. Such credit expires after six months from the start of the package.

Akana does not offer refunds or partial refunds for packages, unless the package is cancelled by Akana, in which case the amount corresponding to the standard price of the sessions taken until that point will be retained. Clients are advised to schedule their treatment plan (at least tentatively) when they pay for a package, to make sure that they can fit in all treatments of a package within its validity. Unless booked in advance, we cannot guarantee therapist availability.

 

CANCELLATION

If for any reason a treatment is cancelled by the client within less than 48 hours notice, the full treatment price remains due for the reserved time slot. This fee is payable within 7 days or at the next session, whichever is earlier.

If for any reason the client cancels within less than 48 hours notice an individual session which is part of a discounted prepaid package, the entitlement to that particular session from the package is lost.

Should the client run late for an appointment, the therapist may shorten the treatment by the time the client was delayed. In some cases it may no longer be feasible to start the session. If at all possible, the client should inform the therapist of any delay. If the therapist hasn’t heard from the client within 15 minutes of the agreed appointment time, the session may be cancelled.

 

DISCLAIMER

Health and wellbeing are the responsiblity of the individual. Advice and treatments provided by Akana are complementary and holistic and not an alternative to conventional medical opinion or treatment. The only ‘diagnosis’ in Akana’s treatments will be from a classical Chinese medicine point of view. Akana doesn’t diagnose physical or mental disorders, doesn’t prescribe medication and doesn’t perform spinal manipulation. At Akana we don’t claim to ‘cure’; we aim to support bringing about change which can help the client’s body to heal itself.

There are few contraindications to acupuncture, massage or manual lymph drainage, and they don’t always mean that a treatment cannot take place. During their initial consultation with Akana, clients should inform their therapist of any medical conditions they have and those they suffered from in the past, and provide update at subsequent sessions if any of the discussed aspects change. It is the client’s responsibility to check with their medical practitioner in case they suffer from a condition and/or are in doubt whether to have one of Akana’s treatments.

 

PROTECTION OF YOUR PERSONAL DATA

During your treatment consultation, we will need to collect personal information from you, relevant to maintaining our client-therapist relationship and used for tailoring your treatment. This information will be kept confidential and stored securely. We will maintain its accuracy by updating it as advised by you.

You may request that we issue a copy of the personal information we hold about you. Provision of such information will be subject to the payment of a processing fee (currently £7.00) and two forms of identification, within 10 days from receipt of suitable forms of identification. We may withhold such personal information to the extent permitted by law. Please note that where the clinic holds responsibility for patient files (for example, the Ascot Health Practice) this request would need to be placed directly with the clinic.

We may occasionally send you information and updates about Akana and our treatments, in which case we would either have taken your agreement in advance to use your information for marketing communications, or give you an opportunity to opt out. We will not disclose your information to others without your prior consent.
